The Krishna and Sandra Rao Foundation has invested £1.8 million in combating child trafficking in India. We hope to encourage and inspire individuals, companies as well as trusts and foundations to leverage the power of philanthropy to make positive change in a child’s life.

As a father of young children, I find it difficult to comprehend the daily life of abuse, exploitation, pain and torture that children across the world face. For my family and myself this is unacceptable and we have pledged to do everything in our power and in our lifetimes to strive to end child abuse of any sort – child trafficking being at the worst end of the spectrum. In the light of that, I am delighted to share our Foundation’s work with you.

It is indeed shocking that government figures state that every 8 minutes a child goes missing in India and 40% of them are never found! Another statistic hard to come to terms with is that of the 3 million people engaged in sex work, more than 40% of them are below the age of 18 years, some as young as 5.

I congratulate my colleagues at iPartner India and each of the NGOs we have funded for the courageous work they continue to do in upholding and protecting children who have been trafficked. My warmest wishes to all our partners who remain at the frontline and fight against the odds every single day.

Our Funding Focus

We focus our funding on effective and efficient projects in India working to bring about the end of child trafficking. Guided by iPartner India, we offer innovative solutions to education and the empowerment of the most vulnerable through job training and research development. We channel our funds towards where there is the highest need and where we feel we can have the most impact. Our Foundation funds a broad range of projects including the trafficking of children and youth for sex and labor; prevention of forced prostitution and gender based violence, and eliminating barriers that deny women their equal rights.

Guided by iPartner India

When we started looking at charities to fund, most of the charities we looked at had an existing model – they have a way to give, they have a preconceived idea on how money should flow. They expected us to fit their profile. iPartner India was different, their focus was on achieving donor goals. They spent time with us to better understand our reasons to donate to the various causes that we find important. In our case it was to make a positive impact in lives of children who have suffered sexual abuse. iPartner India brought various projects to our attention, and spoke to us about the individual people who work tirelessly on these projects. iPartner did the initial due diligence on them and continue to do so to make sure that our donations are achieving our goals. It was a true meeting of minds, and we find that is the basis of a true partnership. Our journey does not stop when we donate, it only starts.

OUR IMPACT

We’ve made a difference to the lives of 26,983 children, adolescents and women.

The impact is visible through the progress and outcome of each of the projects funded by our organisation. We have reached out to 208,817 families and communities. We have supported 17 organisations across 8 states looking at aspects of Prevention, Rehabilitation, Education and Livelihood for adolescents and women.
